Welcome to Anatomy & Physiology for Doulas.

Birth is a physiological process involving nearly every major system of the body.

As doulas, we don't manage that physiology. We don't diagnose, prescribe, or make clinical decisions.

But understanding what is happening inside the body can make us better observers, communicators, and support people.

Throughout this course, we're going to connect anatomy and physiology to practical doula work.

You'll learn about:

  • Bones

  • Muscles

  • The pelvis

  • Movement

  • Gravity

  • The nervous system

  • Touch

  • Acupressure

  • Lactation

  • Postpartum physiology

And throughout every chapter, we'll come back to one question:

What does this mean for my work as a doula?
