Birth Doula in Huntsville, Alabama
Birth is one of the most significant experiences of your life. You deserve to enter it feeling prepared, informed, supported, and confident in your ability to make decisions that are right for you and your family.
At Hosanna Doula & Wellness Services, we provide compassionate birth doula support to women and families in Huntsville and throughout North Alabama.
Whether you are preparing for your first birth, planning a VBAC, hoping for an unmedicated birth, preparing for an induction, navigating a high-risk pregnancy, expecting twins or multiples, or simply want someone experienced by your side, we are here to walk alongside you.
Our role is not to tell you how to give birth.
Our role is to support you in the birth you choose, help you prepare for different possibilities, provide continuous emotional and physical support, and remind you that you don't have to navigate the experience alone.
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, informational, and practical support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.
Unlike your medical provider, a doula does not diagnose medical conditions, perform medical procedures, or make medical decisions for you.
Instead, your doula's focus is you.
We are there to listen to your concerns, help you prepare, provide comfort during labor, support your partner, help you communicate your preferences, and encourage you through the many emotions that can accompany birth.
Your doctor or midwife cares for your medical needs.
Your partner provides the love and personal connection only they can provide.
Your doula brings continuous support, preparation, experience, and encouragement to the birth team.
What Is a Birth Doula?
Your Prenatal Preparation
Your birth experience begins during pregnancy.
Our prenatal meetings give us the opportunity to get to know you and your family while preparing for the birth ahead.
Depending on your package and individual needs, prenatal support may include:
-
We learn about your pregnancy, your previous experiences, your hopes for birth, your concerns, your support system, and what matters most to you.
-
We discuss what you can expect during labor and birth and explore practical tools that may help you cope with the intensity of labor.
-
We help you think through the choices that matter to you so you can communicate your preferences to your support team.
-
Your partner doesn't have to wonder what to do when labor begins.
We help partners understand how they can provide meaningful emotional and physical support throughout labor.
-
Birth can be unpredictable.
We help you think through different possibilities so that if circumstances change, you have tools and information to help you navigate those changes.
Creating Your Birth Preferences
We believe your birth preferences should be more than a checklist.
Your preferences are an opportunity to think about:
Your desired birth environment
Who you want with you
Comfort measures
Movement and positioning
Pain-management preferences
Induction
Monitoring
Pushing positions
Immediate postpartum preferences
Newborn procedures
Feeding preferences
Partner involvement
Circumstances that may require flexibility
We help you consider your options and communicate your wishes.
We do not make medical decisions for you.
Instead, we encourage you to discuss medical questions and decisions with your physician, midwife, or other qualified healthcare provider.
When you enter your on-call period, you can contact us according to the communication plan established in your package.
We remain available to support you as labor develops and help you determine when it may be appropriate to connect in person, according to your individual circumstances and care team's recommendations.
When we join you, our focus becomes providing continuous, personalized support throughout your labor and birth.
